Irene Abernathy

Irene "NeeNee" Elsie Abernathy, age 92 of Murphy, NC passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of the late Augustus and Mary Gladson Holloway. Irene was a seamstress and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Jonathan Thompson; two brothers, Glenn and Herbert Holloway and two sisters, Inez Morrow and Maggie Holloway.

She is survived by her life partner for 45 years, Bronce "Tussler" Kilpatrick; one sister, Betty Cole and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, May 11, 2020 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Fred Delili will officiate. Pallbearers will be R.L. Bruce, Doug Conley, Darrell Rogers, Hank Hayes, Eddie Holloway and Ed Holloway.

Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
