Ervin Ernest Jones

Ervin Ernest Jones, age 90 of Murphy, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Ervin was very loved by his family and many friends. He was a native of Cherokee County and enjoyed many occupations. Ervin was a man of many talents. He and his wife had a leather making business for over 50 years. Ervin was a woodworker, built cabinets, a carpenter, bluegrass festival promoter, logger, sawmiller, tree farmer, enjoyed flea marketing and was an expert collector of Griswold cast iron pans.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Jones; his son, Kent Jones; a daughter, Kim Loudermilk; his parents, Dewey Gay Jones and Laura Mae Phillips Jones; his sisters, Viola Gibbie, Arlene Hardy, Dorothy Bryant, Sadie Donaldson; and his brother, Bobby Jones.

He is survived by his daughters, Debbie (RL) Howard, Lisa (Tim) Dickey; a brother in law, Steve (Jan) Brooks; a sister in law, Kathy (Ray) Barnes; his grandchildren, Leigh Anne (Brent) Gladson, Linsey (David) Taylor, Adrian Fambro, Dalan Loudermilk, Brett Rice, Benjamin (Belzu) Loudermilk; his step grandchildren, Cindy Chastain and Scott Howard; his great grandchildren, Carson, Isabelle, Avery, Aubrianna, Bentley, Emilia, Zoey and Baby Yona; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy with Rev. Calvin Murphy and Rev. Tim Dickey officiating. Music will be provided by Gary Taylor and Allen Harris. Burial will be in Flax Creek Cemetery with Rev. Allen Harris officiating graveside. Pallbearers will be Benjamin Loudermilk, David Taylor, Carson Taylor, Bentley Taylor, Clayton Mitchell and Gary Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Dalan Loudermilk, Avery Taylor, RL Howard, Jerry Gladson and Brent Gladson.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026 prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Flax Creek Cemetery, c/o Nancy Woodward, 90 Quarter Mile Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
