Gertrude Griggs

Gertrude Griggs, age 89 of Murphy, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Gertrude was born in Cherokee County to the late Earnest Robert and Beulah Mae Garret Griggs. She had worked in the textile manufacturing industry. Gertrude enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, quilting and spending time with her family and her friends. She was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Ray Griggs; and five sisters, Shirley Griggs, Mary Lou Stanley, Melba Jordan, Geraldine Griggs and Linda Griggs.

She is survived by her sister, Brenda Stiles (Harold); her adopted sister, Gayle Day (Ricky); and many nieces and nephews that she treated and cared for as her own.

A special thanks to Murphy Rehab Nursing, Four Season Hospice, Personal Touch Home Health and special caregivers, Tammy Powell and Brenda Stiles.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy with Pastor Harold Stiles officiating. Music will be provided by Ashely Williams. Burial will be at Moss Cemetery in Marble. Pallbearers will be Steve Pendergrass, Larry Burris, Zack Day, Cody Luther, Derek Luther, Aaron Powell and Adam Powell.

The family will receive friends from 12pm to 2pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026 prior to the funeral service.
