Linwood Earl Kornegay

Linwood Earl Kornegay, age 85 of Murphy, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Linwood was born in Duplin County, NC to the late William and Jannie Summerlin Kornegay. He was employed as a law enforcement officer. Linwood enjoyed working in law enforcement, building furniture and buildings. He was caring and giving to anyone he met. Linwood enjoyed traveling from Murphy back to his hometown to see his nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Linwood was married 62 years to his best friend, Dotty. He was a loving husband and father. Linwood loved pulling pranks on Dotty with his fellow officers. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Creedmore, NC and was a United States Army veteran.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Dee Kornegay; and his sisters, Eleanor Howard and Gearlene Kornegay.

He is survived by his wife, Dotty Wesley Kornegay; his son, Steven Kornegay (Melissa); his brother, Darrel Kornegay; and his nieces and nephews, Carmen Garland, Holly Martin, Tonya Johnson, Lauren Wesley, Deanna Dennis, Amanda, Jane Hartley, Billy Howard, Lynn Howard, Niles Kornegay, Lori Kornegay, Heath Wesley, Hayden Wesley and Rhonda Creel.
