Shelby Jean Woody, age 78, of Hayesville, NC passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in Clay County, NC.
She was a native of Clay County, NC and the daughter of the late Faril Beverly and Christabell Blankenship. Shelby Jean was a graduate of Young Harris College and Western Carolina University. She also attended New Orleans Baptist Seminary School for two years. Shelby Jean was a teacher of Business Education for the Clay County School System for 35 years and Tri- County Community College for 10 years. She was a member of the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC where she was a Sunday school teacher, taught Discipleship training, had been the church clerk and also taught Vacation Bible School.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hoyt Woody.
She is survived by her children, David Woody of Andrews, NC and Wendy Woody Battermann and husband Kit of Portland Oregon; and one sister, Shirley Blakenship Roach of Lawrenceville, GA.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC. Rev. Aud Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andy Blakenship, Howard Blankenship, Terry Ashe, Mark Woody, Preston Woody and Jackie McClure.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville where the body will remain until placed in the church at the service hour.
