Obituary for Novella Hayes Dockery

Novella Hayes Dockery, age 89 of Murphy, NC passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.

She was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of the late Raymond and Nina Mashburn Hayes. Novella was a homemaker. She had been involved with various church's in the Piedmont area as a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, singing in different groups and as a soloist in her eighties. Novella was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton Dockery; three brothers, James Hayes, Raymond Hayes, Jr and William Hayes; and three sisters, Bessie McLeymore, Mamie Hargreaves and Georgia O'Dell Poirer.

She is survived by her daughter, Allene Moore and husband C.H. of Murphy, NC; one brother, M.G. (John) Hayes of Murphy, NC; sister, Margie Kephart of Murphy, NC; one grandaughter, Teresa Bowleg and husband Frederick; one grandson, Andrew Moore; two great grandchildren, Anthony and Diana Bowleg-Swan; five sister-in-laws; one brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, loved ones and special friends of the Hayesville House.

Funeral Services will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Murphy. Rev. Edward Carter and Rev. Steve West will officiate. Music will be provided by the Ebenezer Choir. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Kephart, Phil Kephart, Max Shipman, Kevin Carter, Michael Carter and Wayne Dockery. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Dockery and David Hayes.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service hour.
