Obituary for Junior Guffie

Junior Guffie, age 85 of Hayesville, a lifelong resident of North Carolina fell asleep in death Sunday, June 19, 2016 at his residence after an extended battle with pancreatic cancer. He was in the loving care of his daughter Karen, her husband J.C. and Sandy as well as others who loved him.

Junior was born December 23, 1930 in Macon County, NC. He was a master carpenter, an avid hunter and fisherman. Junior loved all things outdoors. He served two years in the Army; stationed in England and Germany.

Junior was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He was a member of Downings Creek Baptist Church.

Junior leaves his daughter, Karen McFarlane and husband J.C. of Gastonia, NC; his companion of 20 years, Sandy Parker and her children, Mitchell Parker and wife Kimmy and Kim Sherlin and husband Eddie. He also leaves his former wife and the mother of his daughter, Billie Guffie of Franklin, NC as well as the three children they raised together in their home, Kristy Brown, Jay Dave and Christina Wiggins; step-daughter, Kathy Moose and husband Steve. He is survived by Agnes Moss of Hayesville, J.L. Guffey of Hayesville, Ron Guffey of Dallas, NC, Kenneth Guffey of Hayesville, Bennie Lee Payne of Zenia, OH and many other grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Eva Guffie; children, J. M. Guffie and Janice Watts; and siblings, Blanch Guffie, Dorothy Guffie, Robert Guffie and Furman Guffey.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM, Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. Rev. Keith Nuckolls will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted by Todd Chester in the Union Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Guffey, Larry Sellers, Ronnie Smith, Bill Watts, Jason Robinson and Jay Deese. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Guffie and Jay Dave.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Downings Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 424 Downings Creek Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.

Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
