Raymond Snoekstra, age 80 of Andrews, NC passed away Sunday, July 23, 2016 at his residence.
Raymond was born June 17, 1936 in Newton, New Jersey grew up on a dairy farm in Goat Meadows, New Jersey. He graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1955. After graduation Raymond joined the US Air Force in 1955.
Raymond married Becky Peterson of Stanhope, New Jersey on June 18, 1960. They had two girls, Suellen born February 1964 and Sonya born August 1966. Raymond worked Port Murrey Dairy until it closed in 1970. Then the family moved to Kissimmee, Florida in September of 1970 and Raymond worked at Roberts Dairy in Orlando until he got a job with Walt Disney World in February 1971 where was a cast member until he retired in June of 2001. He received many performance awards while at Disney such as outstanding safety recognition and partners in excellence. Raymond was a graduate of Disney's Horticulture School.
After retiring in June of 2001, Ray and Becky purchased a home in Andrews in 2002 after Becky retired. He immediately became active in the Andrews United Methodist Church, working with sound system, going on mission trips, delivering meals on wheels and helping where he was needed. He also helped build an addition to the church for a Day Care in 2009. In 2008 Raymond received the Laity Award from the church and in 2015 Raymond and Becky both received the Laity Award from the WNC District.
Ray and Becky traveled some over the past 15 years;he toured Canada, went to Holland to visit family and took several trips across the USA including spending time with their granddaughters for a month and also a two week mission trip to Alaska.
In addition to his wife and daughter Suellen he is survived by five grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and one niece and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Andrews United Methodist Church. Pastor Mary Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM prior to the service hour.
