Obituary for Gene Alvin Dockery

Gene Alvin Dockery, age 78 of Murphy passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 11, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Lewis Arthur Dockery and Ruby Sneed Dockery. Gene was a United States Army veteran, where he served as a truck driver in Fort Org, California. He was a truck driver by trade. Gene was an avid outdoorsmen and enjoyer of Bluegrass Music. Gene was a Godly man and treasured father, brother, and grandfather.

Gene was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Rita Annalee Dockery; Brothers Horace and Stanley Dockery, and beloved sister, Stella Dockery Jones. He is survived by one son, Douglas Baines and wife Kendra; three daughters Karen Dockery, Tina Dockery, Sheri Moore and husband Larry; Brothers Arnold Dockery and wife Pat, Sheridan Dockery and wife Patsy; and Sister Grace Dockery Cook and husband Teddy. Gene was the treasured Papaw of Kaila Prentice and husband Mathew, Whitney Bradshaw and husband Brandon, and Hunter Moore. He left behind great-grandchildren Brandi Bradshaw, Matysen Prentice, Georgia Moore, and Silas Bradshaw.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturdays October 14, 2017 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Jack Hurley Jr. and Rev. Kenny White will officiate. Pallbearers will be David and Darren Cook, Brandon Bradshaw, Hunter Moore, Mathew Prentice, and Richard Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Curtis, Scott Roberts, Charles Beaver, Louie Oliver, and Ricky Hurley. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8p.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.
