Obituary for Juanita Marie Arp Crowe

01/09/1926 - 04/30/2019

On April 30, 2019 Juanita Marie Arp Crowe, age 93, stepped into Glory and met her Savior face to face.

Born Marie Arp January 9, 1926 along with her twin sister Mae. She was the daughter of the late Luther Walter Arp and Hattie America Golden Arp. Marie was a lifelong resident of Murphy, NC with brief stays in Colorado.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Frank Crowe; two pre-born babies; son, Steve Crowe; daughter, Janet Crowe; brothers: Denver, Herbert, Hubert, and Herdis Arp; sisters: Donnie Prince, Praise Curtis, Helen Arp, Mae Simonds, and Rena Standridge; and son-in-law, Ricky Twiggs.

Marie is survived by sons, Mike and Dale Crowe; daughter, Jean Twiggs; grandchildren: Jennifer, Chris and Jeremy Twiggs, Lauren Crowe, Jacob, Jared, Joseph, and Jesse Crowe, Anastacia and Ian Crowe, and Erin McFadden; great grandchildren, Maddelyn Helton, Marley, Maeli, and Isaiah Craig, Abram, Elijah and Jude Twiggs; Lillian and Brody McFadden; and Lenny Crowe; sister, Geneva Anderson: sister-in-law, Lavanche Arp; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Marie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young girl and she strived to serve Him faithfully all of her days. She grew up in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church but later became a member of Harris Chapel Church of God.

She had a heart of compassion that reached from here to heaven, and a smile just as big! (and she welcomed you with both!)

Affectionately known as “Gran” by her family, she was little in stature but one of the toughest women to walk this earth. She lived to take care of people. Always working, cleaning, and cooking day and night to provide for her family. Working the fields, tending to the horses, cows, hogs, and chickens, raising big gardens, picking berries, canning, preserving food, living off the land, the best cook in the world (just ask anyone that she ever cooked for)...She was a Pioneer Woman, a true Mountain Woman, a real Proverbs 31 Woman.

She loved ALL her family so much and she really absolutely loved babies! What a generous and precious soul. Her love, strength, and courage were abundant!! Whatever she could do to help, she would do it. She took in orphans, provided for the widows, and truly helped her neighbors. She ALWAYS put everyone else’s wants and needs before hers. We were so blessed to have her!

It’s been said that "It is not what you take with you when you leave this world, it is what you leave behind when you go". What you left behind is immeasurable, Mama. Go rest high on that Mountain, your faithful work on earth is through.

A memorial service will be held at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy with visitation from 5pm - 7pm on Wednesday May 8, 2019. Calvin Murphy will officiate the service immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to any charity or organization that feeds, clothes, or houses children.

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12.
