Obituary for Maggie Lee Scroggs

06/24/1924 - 06/20/2020

Maggie L. Scroggs went on her long awaited journey to Heaven on Friday June 19th. She will be 96 years on Wednesday 24th. She was born in Clay County in the Sweetwater Community. Maggie graduated from Hayesville High and attended Sweetwater School in elementary. She loved her family most of all. Maggie was a devout Christian and loved the Lord and always told others how to know Jesus. She was Secretary and Treasurer of New Hope Baptist Church for over 40 years. Maggie sang alto so loud and beautiful. She loved to cook, work in her garden and had the most beautiful flowers over her entire yard. Maggie was a gifted quilter with many recognitions in the paper for her wonderful quilts. She and neighbors were in the original Club Meetings with Mrs. Velma Beem so many years ago. Maggie canned enough food for her family and shared with all in need. She was a gifted seamstress and made all her clothes and her daughters. Maggie was active in too many things to mention.

She was preceded in passing by her husband, Fred Hubert Scroggs in 1992, including all her brothers and sisters and her parents, Robert W. Coffey and Ella Magnolia Coffey; six brothers, infant Robert Jr., Jehu, Ulus, Robert (Dub), R.B., Bill; and two sisters, infant Laura Eva and Bessie Mae Johnson.

She is survived by one son, Dale Scroggs (Amanda, Zayden and R.J.); two daughters, Joyce Shelton (William, Scott, Jason, Heather, Devin, Dalton and Taylor), David, Teresa, and Janice Brown (Hoyt, David and Sarah); too many great-grandchildren to start to name. So many called her MamMaw it would be impossible to name them all without missing one; and all the CNA's and Nurses that helped her each day.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Hayesville. Rev. Wayne Matheson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery and will be officiated by Rev. Hoyt Brown, Maggie's son-in-law. Pallbearers will be Jason Whitaker, David Hughes, Mark Coffey, Devin Whitaker, William Shelton and Eddie Coffey. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Whitaker, David Shelton and Brad Berrong.

The family will receive friends from 10 - 11 am, Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the New Hope Baptist Church.
