Joel A. Smith, age 64 of Hayesville, North Carolina passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021, after a sudden illness.
Joel was born on September 28, 1956 in Greenville, South Carolina. He was married to Yula Smith. Joel recently retired from his work with the Department of Transportation of North Carolina. He loved fishing, traveling, and raising his dogs. He and Yula enjoyed their mountain property in Hayesville.
He is survived by wife Yula Smith, four sons: Joel Wallace, Aaron (Lindsey), Wade, Drew. He had one daughter, Meganne. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Maddie, Ty, Zayden, Mac, Natalie, Ryker and by his brothers Rex (Ronda), Mike (Lisa), David (Amy). He has three nephews and three nieces, several great nieces and great nephews. Aunts Juanita and Annie Grace, Uncle Bud along with many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents Wallace A. Smith and Martha M. Smith and granddaughter Ava Smith.
There is a drop-in Memorial scheduled for family and close friends on Friday, August 20, 6 to 8 PM, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Hayesville, North Carolina. Masks will be available at the door.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local pet rescue organization.
