Obituary for Jerry Dean Dockery

Jerry Dean Dockery, age 85 of Andrews passed away August 18, 2021 in Cumming, GA surrounded by his loving family.

He was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late Hill and Esther Mae Jones Dockery. He was a graduate of Andrews High School where his avid belief in following rules, keeping a routine, being punctual and following rules afforded him the Citizenship Award of his class. His character as a young man followed him throughout his adult life. Dean was a US Army veteran and received awards for his marksmanship skills. He was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church-Andrews. The most important thing in his life was his family. He and his wife Sandra, of 62 years, enjoyed being together, even in the silence of a fishing trip or traveling down the road. Dean was an artistic woodworker, handyman extraordinaire, enjoyed tinkering in his shop and being outside in the sunshine, especially in the summer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Kendall, Junior, Chuck, Ronald, Boyd and Carroll Dockery and one sister, Edna Mae Cross.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Dockery; two sons, Jerry Dean Dockery, Jr. and wife Karen of Cumming, GA and Chris L. Dockery and wife Tina of Murphy; one daughter, Lisa Dockery Bullock and husband Marcus of Buford, GA; one sister, Mary Ellen Mehaffey of Robbinsville, NC; seven grandchildren, Amber Dockery Davidson and husband Chris, Amanda Dockery, Andrea Dockery Brown and husband John David, Cailey Dockery, Landon Dockery, Mackenzie Allegra Bullock and Hunter Dockery Bullock and wife Bailee; and three great-grandchildren, Connor, Evelyn Grace and Lincoln Davidson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the First Baptist Church-Andrews. Dr. Calvin Bobo and Rev. Jerry Dockery will officiate. Burial will be in the Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Wood, Keith Wood, Matthew Wood, James Bollock, Mitch Waldroup and Dillon Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be Cal Stiles, Jeno Scionti, Frank Wilson, Ray Adams, Paul Revis and Ray Radford.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Andrews.
