Christine Chance Roach, age 96 and a native of Clay County, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
She was the daughter of the late Mirl Chance and Lena McCray Chance and the wife of the late Thomas Roach.
She was an active member of Fires Creek Baptist Church since age 17. Christine has many friends, and she loved traveling. Recently, she spent a week at Panama Beach and was planning a family trip to Dollywood on Thanksgiving. Christine didn't mind one bit being joked with and teased, and as a matter of fact she liked it. She was fun loving and very active which caused her to break almost ever bone in her body! Christine loved her car and she loved to drive. She actually ran over herself one time, and afterwards we had told her if a car was rolling, she'd be in it or under it! Christine would get fighting mad if one criticized her driving! She deeply loved her family and didn't mind jerking a knot in our tail when we got out of line. Christine had a multitude of family and friends who will miss her and miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is also preceded in death by a son in law, Larry Shelton; and four brothers, Howard, Everett, Kenneth and Floyd Chance.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Chance; her daughters, Audrey Shelton, Gail Lands (Tony); one son, Johnny Roach (Joan); her grandchildren, Candy Kirby (Benny), Haley Jones (Justin), Clancy Shelton and Cordell Lands (Brandi); four great grandchildren, Bronson Kirby (Jill), Fionnah Shelton, Taytem and Colsen Lands; and one great great grandchild, Eden Kirby.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Fires Creek Baptist Church in Hayesville with Rev. Dallas Crowder, Dennis Ashe and Mark Laney officiating. Burial will be in Fires Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clancy Shelton, Bronson Kirby, Cordell Lands, Aden Anderson, Dale Roach and Blaine Barnett.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Fires Creek Baptist Church in Hayesville.
