Obituary for Windle Eugene Sneed

Windle Eugene Sneed, 88, passed away peacefully in his home in Ellijay, Ga on June 6 th , 2022, with his family by his side.

Windle was born September 7 th , 1933, in Tennessee. He was raised in Murphy, NC. He married the love of his life, Maurine Gaddis Sneed, on September 4 th , 1955. The two were lifelong companions and best friends who built a beautiful life together.

Windle worked up north for seven years before they moved to Georgia where he worked for Ford Motor Company and retired after thirty years, in 1989. He often recounted fun memories of his time working the assembly lines and in the paint department. If you knew Windle, you knew he was a man of his word and had a passion for standing up for what was right. He enjoyed hunting, playing his guitar, tending to his gardens, bluegrass music, catfish, striking up conversations with everyone he met, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Windle also enjoyed vacations with his wife and family. He had a strong love for the Lord and worshiped using his musical talents of playing the guitar and singing.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Jonah and Viennah Dockery Sneed, along with several siblings.

Windle is survived by his wife Maurine Sneed, siblings Ralph Sneed and Vita May Davis; his children, Gene (Cindy) Sneed and Wendy “Cherry” Phillips; his grandchildren, Keith (Michelle) Gould, Krystle (Ray) Donald, Amanda (Wesley) Holden, Nicole (Brian) Elliot, and Gabrielle (Tyler) McDowell; and his great grandchildren, Ansley, Jace, and Raylee Donald, Elijah and Everett Holden, Abigail, Emma, and Reagan Elliot, and Khloe and Madi McDowell.

Windle, best known as Papa, will be especially remembered for his contagious laughter and playful nature. No one loved the song “Wildwood Flower” more than him and he will be missed so much.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 9 th , 2022, from 12—2Pm at Boiling Springs Baptist Church in Murphy, Nc. Funeral services follow at 2:00pm, officiated by Pastor Darrell Dockery. Pallbearers are Keith Gould, Ray Donald, Wesley Holden, and honorary pallbearer Jace Donald. He will be laid to rest at Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery, procession to follow the funeral services.
