Cora Sue Hubbard, age 87 of Murphy, NC went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
She was a native of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Payne Dickey. Sue loved to travel both nationally and abroad. She enjoyed reading, collecting Department 56 houses and cooking for family and friends. She was a master gardener and spent many hours on her knees in the flowerbeds. Holidays were very special to Sue, and she decorated her home to welcome family and friends who came to celebrate with her. She loved people and could carry on a conversation with anyone. Her husband of 72 years, Jim was the love of her life and family was the center of her world. She embraced the role of Nana or Nannie, the endearing names given to her by her grandchildren. Sue loved the Lord and was a member of Ranger United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Edward Dickey; two sisters, Dorothy Barnes Sells and husband Vonsel and Billie Geraldine Barnes and one grandson Dexter Dean Hubbard, Jr.
She is survived by her husband James Hubbard, Sr; two sons James David Hubbard, Jr. and wife Gail and Dexter Dean Hubbard, Sr. and wife Ginger both of Murphy; two daughters Denette Blakemore and husband Terry of Murfeesboro, TN and DavAnn Nichols and husband Jamie of Murphy, NC; Ten grandchildren, Dr. Jeremy Slade Hubbard and wife Gina, Kristy Marie Ruton and husband Denny, Ali and Zach Amos, James David Hubbard III and wife Julia, Skyler Dustin Hubbard and wife Lauren, Joseph Evan Blakemore, Christian Lee Blakemore, Anthony Nichols and Ashlei Nichols; 12 great-grandchildren, Brianna Taylor Hubbard, Brooklyn Anthony, Piper Rose O'Connell, Davis Hubbard, Reis Hubbard, JD Hubbard, IV, Sloane Hubbard, Hollis Hubbard, Madelyn Blakemore, Harlow Amos, Fisher Amos, and Rylei Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Rev. Chester Jones will officiate. Music will be provided by Ashlei and Anthony Nichols and Suzanne West. Entombment will follow in the Ranger United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:30 PM, Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.
