Angela Joy Green Sawyer, age 70 of Murphy, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Angela was born in Cobb County, Georgia to the late Ofra Green and Bonnie Barrett Whelchel. She was a lifelong resident of Cumming, Georgia but had lived in Murphy for 8 years. Angela enjoyed going to church and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed singing in the choir, gardening, and canning. Angela especially loved her morning coffee with her Mr. Man and also watching hummingbirds and butterflies. She was a member of Beavercreek Free Will Baptist Church of Andrews where she also enjoyed trips with her Golden Girls.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, George Whelchel; her brother, Timothy Lee Whelchel; and a daughter-in-law, Crystal Sawyer.
She is survived by her husband, Benny Sawyer of 48 years; her sons, Brent Sawyer and Brian Sawyer (Tammy); her daughters, Tenicia Lee (Aaron) and Christy Jones (David); her sister, Rachel Hughes (Jerry); her grandchildren, Chasity Sawyer, Kyle Sawyer, Logan Sawyer, Christen Lee, Trent Sawyer, Sawyer Lee and Jaxon Sawyer; her great grandchild, Constance Sawyer; her aunts, Minnie Dyer and Etta Simmons; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Rowland (Brenda) and Kenny Sawyer (Brenda); several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Emma and Margaret.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Beaver Creek Freewill Baptist Church at 2pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025 with Rev. Austin Huston and Rev. Blake Ritz officiating.
