Obituary for Warren Dwight Bookwalter

Warren Dwight Bookwalter, age 91 of Andrews, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Warren was born in Kingston, Ohio to the late Harry Warren and Lidabel Pugh Bookwalter. He grew up primarily in Sarasota, Florida, and graduated from Manatee High School in 1951. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou DeLesline, and they shared 53 wonderful years together before her passing.

Warren proudly served for 12 years in the Army National Guard as a Sergeant First Class with the 211th Infantry Tank Company in Palmetto, Florida.

A skilled electric journeyman wireman and proud member of IBEW Tampa Bay Local 915, Warren dedicated his career to his craft. One of the highlights of his career was working on the original construction of Walt Disney World. He helped wire the electrical systems at Magic Kingdom, contributing to a project that became a beloved landmark for generations.

Warren and Mary made Andrews their home in 1983. Warren was a devoted member of Andrews United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee chairman and usher. He was also a proud Mason with the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Andrews. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making bird houses, bird feeders, and crosses. Warren was a passionate collector of coins, baseball cards, and Ford model trucks, and he loved watching NASCAR, cheering for the Atlanta Braves, and rooting for the Florida Gators.

In addition to his parents and wife, Warren was preceded in death by a son, George Dwight Bookwalter; a daughter, Cynthia Lou Bookwalter; and a sister, Libby Ann Bryant.

He is survived by daughter, Suzanne Long (Stanley); sister, Kathryn Rexford-Penner; brother-in-law, James DeLesline (Donna); grandchildren, Joshua Long (Joesmarie), Andrew Bookwalter (Sheena), Katie Watson (Eric), and Logan Bookwalter (Hope); and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Andrews United Methodist Church.
