David Matthew Roach, age 80 of Murphy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. As he left this world, he was comforted by the arms of Jesus, a reflection of the deep faith he carried throughout his life.
David was born and raised in Clay County, however, he relocated and spent most of his life in Cherokee County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Roach of Hayesville, NC, a brother, Garland Russell Roach of Monticello, GA, and a grandson, Matthew Laney. He retired after 44 dedicated years with MGM Brakes, where he was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and a kind, loving friend.
Above all else, David was a proud and devoted father. His two daughters were the light of his life and the first topic in any conversation - he never missed a chance to talk about them and the joy that they brought him.
He was an avid outdoorsman who found peace in hunting and fishing, and he will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, gentle and loving spirited friend.
David is survived by his daughters, Tammy Roach Marcus and husband Keith Marcus of Murphy, and Angie Roach Dockery and husband, Scott Dockery, also of Murphy; and by his cherished grandchildren, Zachary Laney, Seth Laney, Corey Marcus, and Whitney Marcus-Eller and husband Korey Eller. One great granddaughter, Shelby Rae Eller.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Fires Creek Baptist Church in Hayesville with Rev. Larry Shope and Rev. Dallas Crowder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zachary Laney, Seth Laney, Corey Marcus, Korey Eller, Cort Carringer and Benny Kirby. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Lands.
The family will receive friends from 12pm to 2pm on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Fires Creek Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.
