Obituary for Dee Edward Hamby

Dee Edward Hamby Sr. 80 of Hiwassee Dam passed away Monday, February 26, 2024.

He was born on January 1, 1944 in the Violet community of Cherokee County to the late Pryor and Bessie Mashburn Hamby. He spent his entire life in Cherokee County except for time spent on the road working construction in several different states. This was after his work ended with the Tennessee Copper Company in 1987, having worked there for over twenty years. He later spent about six years employed with the county maintenance department in Murphy where he retired in December 2005. He was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Copperhill Masonic Lodge 656. He loved sports, hunting and his family. He was the best dad, Papaw Ham, and great Papaw Ham. He loved all of his babies big and they loved him!

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Susan Leticia (Tisha)Postelle and D.J. Payne; his brothers, Clifford, John Clinton, Joseph, Thomas and Thurman Hamby; his sisters, Irene Hamby, Gwendolyn Beaver, Ruby Mashburn, Lucy Truett, and Alene Morrow; his grandparents, Hezekiah Thurman and Louisa Mulkey Hamby and Thomas Milton and Harriett Timpson Mashburn; many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Smith Hamby; three sons, Dee Edward Hamby Jr. (Duke,) Michael Quince Hamby (Mike) and William Bradley Lewis (Brad) all of the Hiwassee Dam community; three daughters, Brenda Lee (Daryl) Tankersley of Farner TN, Joey Christine (Roy) Dickey, and Tara Lee (Doyle) Payne both of the Hiwassee Dam community; a sister, Jewel Murphy of Hiwassee Dam; four grandsons, Clayton (Megan) Tankersley, Tyler (Laurie) Taylor, Evan Payne, and Adam Lewis; five granddaughters, Noelle Tankersley (John Long), Lauren Hamby (Carlos Guzman), Lindsey Hamby, Samantha (Jim) Skelton, and Amber (Cory) Mathieu; six great grandsons, Daniel, Casey, Danner, Henry, Myles and Anderson and another, Johnathon Dee due before June 2024; eight great granddaughters, Roxanne, Skylar, Merritt, Sailor, Maeve, Charlee, Avery and Lainey; great, great granddaughter Everly; special family Sherry, Cassandra, Matt and Asher; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Townson-Rose Murphy Chapel with the Rev. Kenny White and Rev. Kevin Chapman officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Carmel Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clayton Tankersley, Tyler Taylor, Adam Lewis, Evan Payne, Justin Garmon, and Sam Radford. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Dickey, Daryl Tankersley, Doyle Payne, Ray and Randall Hamby, Dee Mickens Sr., Eddie, Robert and Richard Morrow, Joey, Don and Andy Hamby and Arnold Beaver.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
