Obituary for Joseph Richard Clayton

07/27/1952 - 01/20/2026

Joseph Richard Clayton, "Rick" age 73, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2026 in his home in Locust Grove, GA. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather – and a great-grandfather – Rick was known for his quick wit, a generous heart, and a remarkable ability to tell a story.

To his 14 grandkids and 9 great-grandkids, Rick was a man of mystery, never revealing whether he’d spent his younger days as an astronaut, a racecar driver, or a cowboy. His tales were always entertaining, often embellished, and always delivered with a twinkle in his eye.

For most of his career, Rick worked in the printing industry, approaching his work with dedication and precision. However, above all else, he found joy in being around his family, and cherished every moment spent with loved ones.

Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Clayton, his dad, Joseph Clayton, his mom, Francis Clayton, his brother Stevie Clayton, his brother Mike Clayton, and his granddaughter Christina Payne.

He is survived by his siblings Chuck Clayton, (Sheila) Kathy Teems, and Bobby Clayton,(Connie) as well as his children Angie Payne, (Chris) Missy McDonald, (Stacey) Paul Clayton, (Dawn) Matthew Clayton, (Tiffany) and Brittany Jackson (Jeremy).

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Little Brasstown Baptist Church. Family will receive friends beginning at 1pm at the church prior to the funeral service. Service will be officiated by the Reverend Aud Brown. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
