Obituary for Larry Small

Larry Smith, 90, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026. He was born on October 4, 1935 to James Small and Martha Wehmeyer Small, both of whom preceded him in death.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1957 and continued his service in the Reserves until 1962. Following his military service, he built a diverse and accomplished career. He worked at International Harvester from approximately 1958 through te early 1970's. He later became a flight instructor private pilot and eventually retired after many dedicated years with Florida Power & Light where he was employed from 1979 to 1993.

In 1960, Larry married Sylvia Kusalik; they later divorced in 1972. He was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished time spent with family.

He is survived by his children, James Small and his wife, Donna; Linda Small Miller and her husband, Charles; He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Lisa Miller, Samantha Fuller and her husband, Nathaniel, and James Miller and his girlfriend, Taylor Thomas. Larry was a proud great grandfather to five great grandchildren, Hannah, Kaison, Kamryn, Alex and Adalynn.

Larry enjoyed a full and active life. Over the years, his hobbied included boating, fishing, golf, and diving while living in Florida. After moving to North Carolina, he found joy in woodworking, horseback riding, leather carving, and cooking.

Larry will be remembered for his service, his many skills, and most of all, his deep love for his family.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Inc, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
