Laurie Lanney, 63, of Murphy passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Born in Pittsburg, PA, and raised in Sarasota, FL; Laurie and her late husband Thomas Lanney moved to Murphy in 2013 due to their great love for the Blue Ridge Mountains.
She is survived by her 3 sons, James, Bruce, and Andrew Pickett.
Laurie was a registered nurse with a big heart who cared deeply for her patients, her family, and her menagerie of dogs (once owning 8 large breeds simultaneously).
There will be no service at this time in view of her final wish to be cremated, and in lieu of flowers, please send donations in Laurie's name to No Paws Left Behind animal shelters or any other animal shelter/charity of your choosing.
She now rests in God's loving embrace and is reunited with Thomas.
