Carol Moss, age 75 of Hayesville, NC passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
She was born in Port Arthur, Texas but lived most of her life in Clay County, NC. Carol was the daughter of the late Abner Cager and stepmom, Alda Nichelson, and mother, Guendola Rebecca Payne Nichelson. Carol was an entrepreneur. She loved singing and baking cakes. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Moss; and one brother, Mike Norris.
She is survived by her children, Lee Moss (Crystal), Billy Moss (Misty) and Shea Chastain (Jay); one brother, Andy Crawford of Texas; three sisters, Laquita Stewart of Whittier, Texas, Alisa Shelton, Texas, and Christine Howard; grandchildren, Austin Moss (Lena), Katie Greenway (Mitchell), Carson Moss, Carter Moss, Susan Moss, Cager Moss, Keaton Moss, Kyle Chastain (Berkleigh), Kolby Chastain and Kasen Chastain; and great grandchildren, Abe Greenway, Lily Greenway, Maddy Moss, Hubie Moss, Atticus Chastain and Conrad Chastain.
The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 3 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Meadow Grove Baptist Church with funeral service following at 3 pm. Pastor Keith Nuckolls will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Shooting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Moss, Kyle Chastain, Cager Moss, Keaton Moss, Kolby Chastain, Carson Moss, Kasen Chastain and Carter Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be Brent McClure, Atticus Chastain, Conrad Chastain and Hubie Moss.
