Obituary for Gladys Dockery Davis

Gladys Dockery Davis, age 95 of Murphy, NC passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Gladys was born in Murphy on April 16th to the late Wiley and Nattie Hembree Dockery. She was the wife of Vernon Davis who was her world and the daily focus of her life and had been married for 73 years before his passing in December of 2022. There was never a moment that she did not miss him dearly.

In addition to her parents and her husband Vernon, she is preceded in death by both of her sons, Michael H. Davis and Thomas J. Davis; as well as her eight siblings, and the last of the Davis sister-in-laws.

She is survived by her grandchildren, David Davis (Michelle), Susan Dan (Jason), Michael Davis II (Mindy), and Tracy Davis; great grandchildren, Knoah, Chloe, Courtney, Hanna, Nikolas, Ashley and Cory; and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, August 14, 2026 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Rev. Kenneth Dockery will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Davis, Michael Davis II, Jason Dan, Knoah Davis and Nik Dan.

The family will receive friends from 12 pm to 2 pm, Friday, August 14, 2026 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

For anyone wishing to express condolences, as well as join for Glady's celebration of life, a dinner at Ebenezer Baptist Church reception hall will be held directly after the graveside service.
