Obituary for Mary Jane Watson

Dr. Mary J. Watson, PhD? 1940 – 2025 Dr. Mary J. Watson, PhD, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and respected licensed clinical psychologist, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 84.

Mary was survived by her brother, John Rodgers, and a proud and loving mother to three daughters: Lori Soulé, Leslie Webb, and Lynn Bowgren. She leaves behind three beloved grandchildren: Alexander Soulé, Savannah Soulé, and David Webb. And one treasured great-granddaughter, Amyrah Soulé-Pattersaul, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. A trailblazer in her field, Dr. Watson was a compassionate and insightful clinical psychologist who spent decades helping others navigate life’s challenges.

Her work touched countless lives, and she was admired for her wisdom, empathy, and unwavering dedication to the mental health and well-being of others. Mary was known not only for her professional accomplishments, but also for her strength, independence, and deep love for her family. She lived life with grace and determination, always offering support, guidance, and kindness to those around her. She loved family gatherings and her home in North Carolina. She will be remembered with profound love and admiration by her family, friends, colleagues, and the many patients whose lives she helped transform.

A private memorial service and celebration of life will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Mary J. Watson’s honor to a mental health charity of your choice.
