Laben “Dale” Huff, age 90, passed away on May 23, 2016 peacefully in his mountain home surrounded by the ones he loved. He was born in Olivet, IL to Catherine F. and Laben M. Huff. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Joanne B., daughters Kimi (Todd) Mazakas, Lynda (Pierre) Frenay, Robin (Ken) Mattson, Kim (Luke) Testa, and son Austin (Karen) Waterman; grandchildren; Rob Herzog, Kai & Serena Frenay, Morgan & Ryan Mazakas, Alex, Danny & Jake Mattson, Ryan, Josh & Hannah Stinson, Addison & Brooklyn Testa, Tyler & Lilly Waterman and sister, June Smith as well as many other relatives and friends.
Dale was a WWII Navy Veteran and retired from Pearl Harbor Naval Base. He enjoyed sailing, fishing, reading, Jazz music, attending UH football games and rooting for his beloved Pittsburg Steelers. Dale was never alone as he always had a dog (or two, or three) by his side for company and companionship. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday in St Petersburg FL surrounded by family and friends. In his lifetime, Dale lived in the Philippines, Spain, Guam & Kailua Beach, Hawaii to name just a few…but spent his retirement years in his “Treehouse on the mountain” in Marble, NC. He used to say he lived so far from anywhere, that when people came to visit he knew they truly came to see him. Dale made everyone around him feel special and will be greatly missed by all those that loved him so much!
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
