Elizabeth Julia Singer McBride age 88 of Andrews, NC passed away Thursday July 21, 2016 at Murphy Medical Center. She was born in Westview PA and graduated from Theil College in PA, then started her teaching career. Over her career of 33 years, she taught English, German, Science, Biology and Journalism.
She was married to her beloved husband of 59 years, Donald N. McBride, also a teacher and principal. After retirement, they moved to Nantahala NC, where they loved to garden. Her hobbies were gardening, traveling, painting, boating, swimming, water-skiing, jogging, cooking, reading and bird-watching. She and Don were very active in the Macon County Senior Games and helped establish the program there in 1991. They won numerous medals, also travelling to state and national competitions. She was of Lutheran faith.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald N. McBride, a brother, Albert Singer, a sister, Ann Kretzer, and granddaughter Claire Marie Wiggins.
She is survived by 4 children, Mary Beth McBride and husband Tom Anderson of Tallahassee FL, Mark McBride and wife Patty of Longboat Key, FL, Maxine McBride and husband Roger Postlethwaite of Jacksonville, FL, and Margaret DeLuna and husband Andrew of Andrews, NC. She had 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
A private memorial will be held at a later date, as her wishes were to go back to PA with her beloved late husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in the name of Elizabeth and Donald McBride to Macon County Senior Games, or a Senior Games program in your community.
