Eugene "Gene" B. Clayton passed away peacefully at home, Friday August 6, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born June 28, 1929, in Murphy, NC and was the son of the late Floyd & Mary Clayton. He was also preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.
Gene was a poultry farmer throughout his life. When he wasn't working, he loved spending time with his family, being outside, deep-sea fishing, hunting and gardening. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Clara B. Clayton of Murphy; one daughter, Debbie Chambers (Buc) and one son, Bryan Clayton (Karie) all of Murphy; four granddaughters, Shanna Chapman (Gina) of Austin, Texas, Jenna Laney (Eric) of Brasstown, Laynee Adams (Jerome) of Murphy and Lacie Knight (Ross) of Brasstown. In addition, he also had six great grandchildren: Kassidy, Clayton, Harper, Landon, Brixton, & Blakelee. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4 pm, August 8, 2021 at Little Brasstown Baptist Church with Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic Graveside Rites by Cherokee Lodge 146. Pallbearers will be Jerome Adams, Keith Clayton, Jonathan Cochran, Kenny Hall, Josh Laney and Thad Laney. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Bracket, Ronnie Clayton, Greg Cranford, Dennis Curtis, Wayne Holland, Rick Stiles and Charles West.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm, Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
