Leroy Whitener, age 80, of Murphy passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Leroy was owner/operator of his own timber company and he was a member and deacon of New Hope Church of God for 47 years.
He was the son of the late John and Edna Taylor Whitener. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Whitener; two brothers, Paul and Richard Whitener; a sister, Janie Lovingood; and a grandchild, Devin Whitener.
Surviving are two sons, Timothy and Brian Whitener; two daughters, Tina and Tammy Whitener; two brothers, Michael and Harvey Whitener; a sister, Iva Jean Hendrix; five grandchildren, Josh and Troy Taylor; Tia Longwith, Case Summerlin, and Wes Harper; nine great grandchildren, Talia, Tori, and Layla Taylor, Cooper Harp, Aubrey and TJ Whitener, Cameron Summerlin, and Harlan and Ava Longwith.
Interment will be in Ogretta Cemetery.
