Arthur Wayne Purcell, age 79 of Murphy, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021. He was born in Guilford County, NC to the late Lewis Wayne and Era Hattie Lackey Purcell. Arthur was a retired handyman and the owner/operator of a lawn service.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lackey; and two sisters, Linda Forrest and Francis Hutchson.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Dobbs Purcell; three sons, James Arthur Purcell, Jerry Mashburn, and Melvin Mashburn; four daughters, Tammy Winfree, Theresa Snyder, Debbie Dockery, and Becky Crane; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Pastor Gerald Derreberry will officiate. Burial will be at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Jerry Mashburn, Melvin Mashburn, Rodney Crane, Christopher Edwards, Joe Edwards and Jerry Curtis.
The family will receive friends from 12pm-1pm on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 198 Shady Grove Rd, Murphy, NC 28906.
